New Jersey Charity Care (Hospital Care Payment Assistance Program)

New Jersey Medicaid

Provides financing for health care services, including hospitals, doctors, prescriptions, nursing homes and other healthcare needs, for low-income individuals and families.  The website offers general information about eligibility requirements and access to more detailed information.

NJ FamilyCare

This program provides low cost or no cost health insurance for kids and certain low-income parents.  NJ FamilyCare is for families who do not have available or affordable employer insurance, and cannot afford to pay the high cost of private health insurance.

Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund

This is a financial assistance program for NJ families whose children have an illness or condition (acute or chronic) for which expenses are incurred that are not fully covered by insurance, state or federal programs, or other sources.  If you are in this situation and are not eligible for full Charity Care coverage, you may qualify for this program if uncovered medical expenses exceed 10% of annual family income.

Help with Prescription Drugs

Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged & Disabled (PAAD)

This state-funded prescription drug assistance program is for NJ residents who are at least 65 years of age, or at least 18 years of age and receiving Social Security Disability benefits; and who meet annual income requirements.

Senior Gold Program

This state-funded prescription drug assistance program is for NJ residents who are at least 65 years of age, or at least 18 years of age and receiving Social Security Disability benefits; and who meet annual income requirements.

Rx4NJ & Partnership for Prescription Assistance

Rx4NJ and the Partnership for Prescription Assistance help low-income or uninsured NJ residents get free or discounted prescription drugs, direct from pharmaceutical manufacturers.  The eligibility criteria for patient assistance programs vary from program to program and may even vary by medicines within a program.  On both websites you can determine which public or private patient assistance programs you may be eligible for by answering questions and using the online application wizard.  Printable applications to apply for free or discounted drug programs are also provided online.

Clinical Trials

This website is a central listing of clinical studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), other Federal agencies, the pharmaceutical industry, and non-profit organizations, such as universities.  The site provides a listing, searchable by disease or condition, of regularly updated information about federally and privately supported clinical research in human volunteers.  Information about a trial’s purpose, who may participate, locations and phone numbers can be found at www.clinicaltrials.gov

New Jersey Cancer Trial Connect (NJCTC)

This website provides a free, searchable database of over 400 cancer treatment trials going on in New Jersey.  When you register, NJCTC matches clinical trials in the state with your medical profile.  Visit the NJCTC site at www.njctc.org/default.aspx

RX Outreach

A patient assistance program that provides prescription drugs to individuals and families who are at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level – for example, individuals whose income is $26,000 a year or less, and families of four whose income is about $53,000 a year or less, are eligible.  Medicatuibs can be ordered in 90-day supplies through the mail.  Each 90-day supply is $20 or $30, depending on the medication.

Health Centers

Centers for Primary Health Care (CPHC) by County

Centers for Primary Health Care are located in each county and provide comprehensive primary care health services including pediatrics, internal/family medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and dental services. National Suicide Prevention

NJ Division of Mental Health Services (DMHS)

For adults with serious mental illness, children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disturbances, or anyone in the state who feels they need help with a mental health problem, the DMHS promotes a comprehensive culturally competent system of care, including psychiatric inpatient settings and community-based support services.

New Jersey Food Stamps

Food stamps are available to low-income households, including families, couples without children, individuals, seniors, disabled persons, legal immigrants and victims of violence.  You can apply through your local County Welfare Agency or online at www.state.nj.us/humanservices/dfd/foodstamp.html Application forms are also available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Creole, Korean, Polish, Portuguese and Gujarati.

Community Health Law Project (CHLP)

The Community Health Law Project provides legal and advocacy services to low-income persons with disabilities.  The organization assists individuals with behavioral, developmental, physical and visual disabilities and people living with HIV/AIDS.  Areas of expertise include public entitlements, housing advocacy, family law, consumer law, discrimination, counseling, etc.  The organization has offices throughout the state of New Jersey.  Visit the Community Health Law Project online at www.chlp.org or call them at 973-275-1175.

Division of Addiction Services (DAS)

DAS provides statewide leadership for alcohol and other drug prevention and treatment services for New Jersey residents.  The division works to decrease misuse or abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs by supporting the development of a comprehensive, high quality network of prevention and treatment.
